Seoul - (News Wire) - Seoul National University College of Engineering (Dean Yooseok Hong) announced that the Department of Industrial Engineering hosted a two-day Executive Board Meeting of the International Ergonomics Association (IEA) from May 16th (Tuesday) to the 17th (Wednesday).

The International Ergonomics Federation Board of Directors

The International Ergonomics Association (IEA) is a gathering of academic organizations in the field of ergonomics from over 140 countries. It holds an annual board meeting and executive board meeting. The executive board is the decision-making body responsible for the operation and management of the IEA. The 2023 executive board meeting is scheduled to be held in Korea to review the preparations for the 2024 world conference and visit the conference venue.

On May 18, a special session introducing IEA activities and discussing the development of ergonomics is scheduled to be held at the 2023 Spring Academic Conference of the Korean Society of Human Factors Engineering at Hankyong University. On the 19th, executives, including the board chairman, will visit Jeju ICC, the venue for the upcoming conference, to ensure thorough preparation and confirm details for the conference proceedings.

The World Ergonomics Conference (IEA 2024), scheduled to be held at Jeju ICC from August 25 to 26, 2024, will be themed "Better Ergonomics for the Future of Humanity." Over 1,500 ergonomics experts from more than 140 countries worldwide are expected to participate. The World Ergonomics Conference, often likened to the Olympics of ergonomics, is the largest academic conference in the field, occurring every three years. Following the 2003 Seoul conference, South Korea has confirmed the hosting of the 2024 event in Jeju, solidifying its status as a global hub for ergonomics.

Professor Myeong-Hwan Yoon, who is currently serving as the Chairman of the IEA 2024 Organizing Committee and is affiliated with the Department of Industrial Engineering at Seoul National University, stated, "This IEA Executive Council meeting is the first face-to-face gathering since the pandemic, where major activities and management evaluations of the IEA will be reported. It holds significant importance, especially in reviewing the preparations for the success of IEA 2024 scheduled to take place in Jeju in 2024."

The Ergonomics Society of Korea is actively preparing to host IEA 2024. Thus far, South Korea stands as the sole Asian country to host the IEA conference twice, and even on a global scale, it is among only seven advanced nations. This positions Korea in the G7 status in the field of human factors engineering.
